The design is an asset. It is not overcoat with flashy elements, and so works better in a variety of circumstances. I’ve worn these to the office with chinos and collared shirt and also outside with jeans and a hoodie.

I have to admit that I wasn't expecting much from shoes this inexpensive. They did arrive in a box, rather than a bag. (Nice!) There was premium crush-proof packaging. (What?) They come with two sets of laces, so you can sport the uniform grey look or swap out the white ones to match the sole. (Bonus!) At the bottom of the box was a big card asking if you're "all set" or "not quite done", with steps to facilitate a return or other issues. These guys really seem to care that customers are happy! (Whoa!)
